SINFT Social Impact NFTs: Empowering youth to make a social impact by creation of NFTs

Approved 17.01.2025 by the EC, submitted  25.04.2024

Period 2025-2028

Call: ERASMUS-EDU-2024-VIRT-EXCH (Virtual exchanges in higher education and youth)

Total budget: 500.000 EUR.

Short description: The project aims to bridge the digital divide between nonprofits and the technology sector and to provide these organizations with the skills and knowledge needed to utilize technology fully. This project aims to support the transformation of nonprofits into the digital age by offering training and support on using NFTs, blockchain, and other high-tech solutions to increase their social impact. The project will target young people and individuals, such as youth workers and staff working in youth organizations and civil society organizations, to participate in creating and marketing NFTs for the benefit of their communities and organizations. The social cause of the CSOs and the YOs will be the main guiding point for creating the NFTs and the marketing campaign.

I'm a scientific researcher on the H2020 Project "smART socIal media eCOsystem in a blockchaiN Federated environment (ARTICONF)"- devoted to researching and developing a series of trustworthy, resilient and globally sustainable decentralised social network platforms. Grant agreement No 825134 at UIST "St. Paul The Apostle" – Ohrid.

Start date of project: 01.01.2019. Duration: 36 months until 30.06.2022.

The main aim of the project is to achieve a major breakthrough in transparent, decentralised infrastructure creation for social media networks with anonymous trusted participation and democratic decision-making based on modern blockchain, P2P, and elastic cloud edge-based technologies.

ARTICONF addresses issues of trust, time-criticality and democratisation for a new generation of federated infrastructure, to fulfil the privacy, robustness, and autonomy related promises that proprietary social media platforms have failed to deliver so far. Namely, its goals are to:

1.    simplify the creation of open and agile social media ecosystem with trusted participation using a two stage permissioned blockchain;

2.    automatically detect interest groups and communities using graph anonymization techniques for decentralised and tokenized decision-making and reasoning;

3.    elastically autoscale time-critical social media applications through an adaptive orchestrated Cloud edge-based infrastructure meeting application runtime requirements; and

4.    enhance monetary inclusion in collaborative models through cognition and knowledge supply chains.

Key project activities: Development of Tools for Analytics and Cognition (TAC) service providing guided analytics software toolset with smart aggregation, cognition and interactive visualization with a monitoring tool.

The international project ARTICONF aims to create a decentralised and federated social media ecosystem, supported by an underlying blockchain technology seamlessly coupled with optimised trust-based measures in an anonymised environment, which simplifies traceability to identify bad actors and eliminates malicious contents such as fake news. Moreover, its novel socio-cognitive, and smart matching practices integrate relevant users with common interests into an orchestrated networked community world without de-anonymising them. Supposedly, such a design would bring a range of social media actors (individuals, start-ups, SMEs) under one systemic umbrella and allow them to be a part of incentivised collaborative decision-making and sharing economy. In principle, ARTICONF presents a new perspective in the current age when data breaches and undemocratic practices are a regular phenomenon at the hands of centralised intermediaries, by creating an open and transparent ecosystem, where control lies in the hands of each anonymous user with provisions for individual or collaborative monetised enhancement. The final tool is an interactive guided analytical dashboard that gives insights on pattern prediction, risk quantification and return on investment analysis to enhance revenue growth.

The project is financed by both countries. Partner University of Innsbruck, Austria.

The AtomicFog project researches novel concepts and methodologies for resource management in Fog environment that integrates the constricted availability and reliability of the memory, storage and computational resources of the Fog devices, therefore enabling adaptive and intelligent decisions on the resource management and provisioning. By modelling the Fog as the smallest constituent unit of matter – the Atom, we aim to fulfill the promises of the Fog computing through:

  • (1) intelligent and adaptive resource management,

  • (2) Pareto-consensus resource consolidation and provisioning, and (

  • 3) proximity-aware data movement.
